The Permanent Collection contains a selection of over 360 products, presented over the years at the various editions of SaloneSatellite since 1998. It has had a permanent home since 2018 and has now started touring around the world.
SaloneSatellite was set up in 1998 by Marva Griffin Wilshire, in response to a request from the Salone del Mobile.Milano, to create a dedicated space in the fairground pavilions for designers under 35 during the trade fair, geared to encouraging interface between aspiring designers and entrepreneurs. Three major anniversaries have been celebrated thus far: Avverati. A Dream Come True! in 2007, SaloneSatellite 20 years of New Creativity in 2017, and Universo Satellite. 25 Years of SaloneSatellite in 2024 - all three exhibitions curated by Beppe Finessi with exhibition design by Ricardo Bello Dias. The Permanent Collection was set up in 2018, bringing together some of the prototypes and products presented by designers that had taken part in SaloneSatellite, using it as a springboard. Donated by their own authors and producers, they have all found a home that bears witness to the commitment and experimentation underlying each single piece: the Artwood Academy / ITS Rosario Messina Foundation. The educational institute, in the heart of Brianza, trains future wood and furniture design supply chain and contemporary carpentry professionals.
In the year in which SaloneSatellite marked its 25th anniversary, the SaloneSatellite Permanent Collection 1998-2023 Exhibition, put together at the request of IDFFHK International Design Furniture Fair Hong Kong, will take a selection of one hundred pieces from the Permanent Collection to the** Arts Pavilion in Hong Kong (11th – 21st November 2024)**. Designed by Herzog & de Meuron, the prestigious exhibition centre in the West Kowloon Cultural District of the Chinese metropolis has become an emblem of Victoria Harbour. Taken together, the works map out the themes, aesthetics and creativity that have characterised design from the turn of the twenty-first century to the present day. They also paint a picture of the new generations to whom the baton of the Masters of the twentieth century has been passed down, entrusted with the important task of conveying society towards a different future.
